Paul signing his new children’s book Hey Grandude!

It was a performance for a completely different audience in a completely different setting, as Paul McCartney was used to. While a few hundred fans had gathered outside the door of Waterstone's Piccadilly to catch a glimpse of their hero, the former Beatle was inside reading from his new children's book Hey Grandude!

The setting was Grandude's living room, which had been recreated in the bookstore. The audience was a small group of children from a Brixton primary school and a few dozen people who had managed to get a ticket for this exclusive event. Sitting in a comfy chair, and far from looking like a rock star, the 77-year-old told the story of Hey Grandude! to an audience who where probably totally unaware of is legacy.

Afterwards Paul and illustrator Kathryn Durst answered questions from the audience and the event ended with a signing session. One lucky fan was also able to meet the musician having won a competition to spend time with Sir Paul.
McCartney’s first children’s picture book was released the day before, September 5. The book is about a granddad who is having adventures with his grandchildren.
