Flaming Pie Archive Collection: What To Expect?

Although it's not entirely certain yet that Flaming Pie will be the next installment of the Paul McCartney Archive Collection, it is fun to speculate about the bonus content we could expect in addition to the remastered album itself. Because that is quite a lot; sure enough for two bonus CDs.

First there are the B-sides that appeared on the singles taken from Flaming Pie. There are a total of four: Looking For You, Same Love, Love Come Tumbling Down and the Broomstick recorded with Steve Miller.

Then there are a number of songs from the recording sessions that have not yet been released, including two with Steve Miller: Soul Boy and (Sweet Home) Country Girl. A third yet unknown track is Cello In The Ruins. A fourth bonus could be Stella May Day; that is an instrumental song written for the fashion show of daughter Stella McCartney's graduation. So the first bonus disc might look like this:

Bonus Disc 1: B-sides & unreleased songs
Looking For You
Same Love
Love Come Tumbling Down
Broomstick (With Steve Miller)
Soul Boy (With Steve Miller)
(Sweet Home) Country Girl (With Steve Miller)
Cello In The Ruins
Stella May Day

In addition, many more extras are to be expected. There are at least two interesting demos: The one from Great Day, because it was recorded in the early 1970s, and the one from Souvenir, because McCartney and producer Jeff Lynne tried to catch the mood of the demo as good as possible when recording the final version.
Three songs, The World Tonight, Young Boy and Somedays are known to have alternative, early mixes. Then there is the original version of Beautiful Night, recorded in 1987, and of the song Whole Life, recorded in 1995. Whole Life was re-recorded in 2003 together with Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and released on the benefit album One Year On 46664 .
There are also live versions of title track Flaming Pie and Calico Skies and there is a semi-live version of Young Boy. Enough for a second bonus CD:

Bonus Disc 2: Demos & alternate versions:
World Tonight (early mix)
Young Boy (early mix)
Somedays (early mix)
Beautiful Night (Original Version from 1987)
Whole Life (1995 version)
A Great Day (1972 demo version)
Souvenir (demo from Jamaica)
Flaming Pie (live)
Calico Skies (live)
Young Boy (semi-live)

There is a possibility for a third bonus disc, containing the Oobu Jobuu radio show which was created by McCartney in 1995 and aired on the American radio network Westwood One. Snippets of the show were released on the B-sides of the Flaming Pie singles and in 1997 a compilation cd was released with highlights from the 15 shows. This compilation could be included, however a lot of the content on this cd is related to the album Off The Ground. So I think this is more suitable for a possible Archive Collection edition of that album.

And finally the video content, of which is also enough for two DVDs. The first DVD might contain In The World Tonight, a TV special about making Flaming Pie and largely recorded in McCartney’s own recording studio Hogg Hill Mill. A beautiful, personal portrait and, to my mind, one of the better TV shows made around Sir Paul.

Relatively many videos have been made for the promotion of the singles of Flaming Pie, such as for Beautiful Night (with Ringo Starr) and Little Willow. From the singles Young Boy and The World Tonight, two different video clips have been released.

Other possible video content are the semi-live performance that McCartney gave during the promotional tour of Flaming Pie, such as his appearances at the British TFI Friday and at Oprah Winfrey in the US. Live versions of Flaming Pie and Calico Skies from the tours between 2002 and 2005 is also an option to be included.

DVD 1:
TV-special In the World Tonight

DVD 2:
2 promo films for Young Boy
2 promo films for The World Tonight
1 promo film for Little Willow
1 promo film for Beautiful Night
Young Boy (semi-live)
Flaming Pie (live)
Calico Skies (live)
