McCartney 45 years live: Ten favorite solo songs
In the 45 years McCartney is touring, he didn’t play much from his solo catalogue. First it was primarily Wings, later The Beatles. When he performs solo tracks, it’s most of the time after the release of a new album. My ten favorite McCartney solo songs, performed live. In no particular order:
Coming Up
One of the few solo tracks McCartney performed during multiple tours. The one from 1989/90 is my favorite version. Drummer Chris Whitten’s moment to shine:
My Valentine
The live version is slightly different from the studio recording; less jazzy, more poppy. It’s the difference in bands.
Here Today
McCartney’s homage to John Lennon; always a touching moment when he plays it:
Dance Tonight
To lift the mood a bit, after playing Here Today. Great dancing by drummer Abe Laboriel jr.
Every Night
A hidden gem from his 1970 debut. It got isn’t live debut at the 1979 Wings UK Tour.
Queeny Eye
Taken from his latest album NEW (2013). Macca still rocks!
Sing The Changes
Actually a Fireman song, but live too impressive to ignore.
Calico Skies
One of the few songs of which I prefer the live version above the studio one. Thanks to Wix on accordion.
Ram On
Only played by request from time to time. So hearing this little gem live is like getting an extra treat.
Maybe I’m Amazed
The ultimate McCartney song. Wings nailed it in 1976.
