It’s official: McCartney confirms new album & single

After ten days of clues on social media, Paul McCartney confirmed today the release of a new upcoming album, this fall. Prior to this Macca will release tomorrow, Wednesday June 20, the album tracks ‘I Don’t Know' and 'Come On To Me' as a so-called double A-sided single.

According to his website the two A-sides “are polar opposites: 'I Don’t Know' being a plaintive, soul-soothing ballad as only Paul can deliver, and 'Come On To Me' a raucous stomper that fans that first spark of chemistry into a rocking blaze”. ‘Come On To Me’ already made its live debut, last week during an intimate surprise gig at the tiny Liverpool Philharmonic Pub.

The new album, probably called Egypt Station, will be McCartney’s 17th solo studio cd and the first since NEW, released in 2013. Earlier this year McCartney confirmed he was working with producer Greg Kurstin, who briefly talked about Paul McCartney’s upcoming album, last September. Although he wasn’t allowed to reveal anything, he did say the album was promising:
All I can say is that when he brings songs to the studio, it blows my mind that he’s still coming up with the most amazing songs. I feel like he’s topping himself.

There are rumors that more producers are involved with the album, probably Giles Martin who also collaborated with McCartney on NEW. Earlier this year, former Beatles-engineer Geoff Emerick posted a tweet, suggested he was asked (and having accepted the invitation) for mixing the album.

Last year McCartney gave a few details about some songs which could make the new album. One is a political inspired song: “Sometimes the situation in the world is so crazy that you’ve got to address it,” McCartney told an audience at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, during a Q&A session last July. Many believed the song is inspired by President Trump. Another one is a track McCartney described as a song with a certain ‘latin’ feel. There are also rumors about a song called Brazil; probably it’s the same track.
Also there are two new songs, Let My Self Down and Special Day, which got copyrighted recently by MPL.
Exact details on the new album are expected later this week.
