The McCartney-Richards collaboration; will it be on Paul’s new album?
In his 2010
autobiography Life Keith Richards revealed that he and Paul McCartney wrote a
song together. A song Richards apparently was proud of because “the lyrics were
pinned to my wall for many weeks”. But until today, the track has never been
released.
The
collaboration came spontaneously when McCartney was on vacation in the
Caribbean Turks and Caicos Islands in January 2005. During a week, McCartney
joined the Rolling Stones guitarist at his home. Every afternoon Paul paid a
visit, according to Keith, in particular to escape his wife Heather Mills.
Their marriage had already entered a stormy phase. As Richards revealed in his autobiography, it was the first time they shared
time together after all those years:
We were really pleased to see each other. We fell straight in talking about the past, talking about songwriting. He told me because he was left-handed, he and John Lennon could play the guitars like mirrors opposite each other, watching each other’s hands. So we started playing like that. We started composing a song together, a McCartney/Richards number.

Paul talking about his holidays with Keith Richards:
As far as
it is known, they only have written the song, not recorded it. But a few years
ago Richards insisted he still intends to do so one day:
The thought is there but the actual deed is still be done.

Keith Richards talking about recording the song:
There have
been plenty of opportunities for a joint release since 2005, on the various
solo albums by McCartney or Richards, but it just didn’t happen. The next
chance is on McCartney's newest album, which is expected to be released this
fall. But what’s on that one, that’s unknown yet.
