Netflix to finish Paul McCartney’s Animated Film ‘High In The Clouds’

Netflix will be joining the team that is producing Paul McCartney’s animated film ‘High In The Clouds’. The feature movie is based on the eponymous children’s adventure novel, written by McCartney and Philip Ardagh and published in October 2005. The book was illustrated by Geoff Dunbar, with whom Sir Paul collaborated on the animation films ‘Rupert and the Frog Song’ and ‘Tropical Island Hum’.

‘High in the Clouds’ tells the story of a teenage squirrel named Wirral who finds himself “pulled into a ramshackle gang of teenage rebels who live high in the clouds after he accidentally antagonizes Gretsch the owl, the tyrannical leader (and fabulous singer!), who steals the voice of anyone who upstages her.”

The first reports about making an animated film based on the book, go back to 2013, when the start of the project was announced. In 2015 seven or eight new songs were recorded by the former Beatle, and on one of the tracks Lady Gaga was involved.
Had a beautiful session with Sir Paul McCartney and friends. Working on one of his many secret projects! Killer musicians, vibe, and lots of laugs. Always a good time with my buddy. I’ll never forget when he called me last year to work and I hung up the phone cuz I thought it was a prank!”

Also Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready took part in these recording sessions.

Lady Gaga’s post on Istragram turned out to be the last message about the project, after which it remained silent. A few years later there were rumours about continuing problems with the production company and working on the animation film seemed abandoned. But with the new announcement it’s clear that the project is revived and that the film will be finished:
We are  thrilled to be partnering with Netflix.  They complement what is already an amazing team with Gaumont and we can think of no-one better to be working with to bring our film to a global audience.  I’ve always loved animated films and this is a hugely important passion project for me. I can’t wait for the world to see it.”

Bringing the world a new animated film from the heart and mind of the brilliant Paul McCartney is undoubtedly one of the greatest thrills we've experienced at Netflix.”
Gregg Taylor, Netflix Director of Original Animated Films

When the animated movie will be released, isn’t known yet.
