Top 10 McCartney Singles Of The 2010s

McCartney released a total of nineteen songs as a single in the 2010s. Most of them were singles from the albums NEW and Egypt Station or were the result of, sometimes surprising, collaborations. My top ten singles:

10. Appreciate
Released in may 2014 as a single, and taken from the album NEW, which was released a year earlier. The very modern sounding track is one of the many highlights on the album. There were big plans for the robot, that appears in the accompanying video, to play a role during the Japanese leg of McCartney’s Out There Tour. But Paul got ill, the concerts cancelled and the robot was never seen on stage.

9. Get Enough
Released on the last day of last year. Get Enough is one of the three tracks Paul wrote and recorded together with Ryan Tedder for the album Egypt Station. The song stands out because of the heavy use of auto tune, which led to some discussion. But despite all that, it’s just a wonderful ballad.

8. Out Of Sight
This 2013 single is a remake of the song ‘Nothing Too Much Just Out Of Sight’ from the Fireman album Electric Arguments (2008). It’s the result of a collaboration between the Italian electronic dance group The Bloody Beetroots and the Fireman, consisting of Paul and Youth. Out Of Sight is another proof of McCartney’s diversity.

7. In A Hurry
Released last month, together with Home Tonight, and another remnant of the Egypt Station recording sessions. Very creative song, with a long and magnificent outro containing a whooping guitar solo, followed by a sound collage from the audience during a live concert, supported by a tasteful violin, after which a sax solo comes in and continues until the end of the song.

6. FourFive Seconds
McCartney wrote this one together with Kanye West, and sixteen others, and hardly recognized the track when he heard it back for the first time. “Am I still in it?” was his reaction. Nevertheless, this collaboration with Kanye West and Rihanna brought Paul in many countries back in the top 10 for the first time in more than two decades. Released in 2015.
