Songs McCartney Gave Away - Part 2
Also during his solo career McCartney gave songs away, although less frequently than in the Sixties. But again, some of these songs are real gems.

Part Two: The Wings & solo years

1974: Peggy Lee - Lets Love

Let’s Love is the title track of a 1974 album by Peggy Lee. McCartney wrote the song at Peggy Lee’s house, after being invited for diner by the British singer. In 2014 a demo version recorded by Paul was finally released on the remastered Venus And Mars Deluxe Edition.

1974: Rod Stewart - Mine For Me

Mine For Me was specially written for Rod Stewart for his 1974 album Smiler. The song has been released as a single, and became a minor hit in the US, reaching number 91 on the Billboard Hot 100. In November ‘74,  The Faces with Rod Stewart played in London with Paul and Linda McCartney in the audience. While they didn’t intend to, Rod called the two of them up on stage to sing along on Mine For Me.

1984 Everly Brothers – On The Wings Of A Nightingale

In 1984 the Everly Brothers made a new studio album for the first time in more than a decade. Their comeback single was written by one of their longtime fans, Paul McCartney. On The Wings Of A Nightingale was a success and made the brothers return to the pop charts for one last time.

2015 Diana Krall – If I Take You Home Tonight
This piano ballad was written during the recording sessions for McCartney’s 2012 jazz album Kisses On The Bottom, on which he collaborated with Canadian singer Diana Krall and her band. The song didn’t made it to the album because it was, according to producer Tommy LiPuma, “still being developed and I wasn’t sure if it would fit stylistically with everything else we had done”. Krall recorded the song for her pop album Wallflower.

2017 Charlotte Gainsbourg – Songbird In A Cage
The song was given to the French-British singer after a lunch with McCartney in 2011. The song was recorded in New York in 2016, with McCartney playing guitar, bass and piano and released in November 2017.
