McCartney In 2018: What To Expect?

Although Paul McCartney will become 76 years old in 2018, he is still very active. And so we can expect some things for the coming year as well. First of all, there is of course the long-awaited new studio album, but there is more.

New Album
It was expected that McCartney's new album would be released last fall, but the project takes longer than planned. Last month, McCartney revealed that work is still under way:
We’re putting the finishing touches to it now and at the beginning of next year. So, I would like to achieve making that a really great album. Fingers crossed!
Not much is known about the new album. Producer Greg Kurstin is involved, but there are rumors that more producers are working on it, just as was the case with McCartney's previous album, New. The release is expected next spring at the earliest.

New Tour?
The current One-On-One Tour has been running for almost two years and after Paul's visit to Australia and New Zealand last month he has been almost all over the globe. Except for his own homeland. So maybe a final leg in the United Kingdom next spring, after which a new tour could start in the summer. It might well be that a new tour coincides with the release of his new album, although the previous two CDs have not been promoted with a tour.

Archive Collection
This year too we can expect a new release of the Archive Collection. Unlike the previous editions, this time it is totally unknown what the next one will be. Hopes are for a reissue of the first two Wings albums Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway. On the other hand, there are reports that Wings' latest lead guitarist Laurence Juber has been interviewed for an upcoming reissue of the band's last album Back To The Egg. Other possible options are the 1979 album London Town, maybe in combination with Back To The Egg, or McCartney's solo album Flaming Pie (1997).

Anniversaries
With a more than fifty years spanning carreer, there is always a jubilee to celebrate. The most important one in 2018 is the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' White Album. Giles Martin, son of Beatles producer George Martin, is said to be working on a new remix of the legendary album, just as he did for 50th Anniversary Edition of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The re-release of the White Album is scheduled for November. Other jubilees are Wings album London Town, 40th anniversary, and the Fireman album Electric Arguments, 10th anniversary.
