Sgt. Pepper anniversary edition officially confirmed

The Beatles have revealed the details for the upcoming 50th anniversary edition of Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band. The album will be available in four different formats: The ‘normal’ edition, containing the by Giles Martin remixed digitally remastered album on cd, a double-vinyl album and a deluxe 2 cd version. The Super Deluxe edition contains four cd’s, a DVD, a Blu-ray disc and a 144-page book with lots of photos and background information about the making of Sgt. Pepper. The release date is set for May 26th.

The extra cd’s (cd 2 & 3) of the Deluxe Edition contains 33 additional recordings from the studio sessions, most previously unreleased and mixed for the first time from the four-track session tapes, sequenced in chronological order of their recording dates. Also on the cd’s is a new stereo mix of Penny Lane and the 2015 stereo mix of Strawberry Fields Forever.





The fourth cd is the album's original mono mix, supplemented with Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane, as well as the Capitol Records U.S. mono single mix of Penny Lane. Also on this disc are previously unreleased early mono mixes of She's Leaving Home, A Day In The Life and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. The mix of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is a mix thought to have been erased from a tape in 1967, but was discovered during archive research for the anniversary edition.

The DVD contains new 5.1 surround audio mixes of the album and Penny Lane by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, their 2015 5.1 surround mix of Strawberry Fields.
The Blu-ray disc features 4K restored original promotional films for Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane and A Day In The Life, The Making of Sgt. Pepper, a restored, previously unreleased documentary film broadcasted in 1992, featuring insightful interviews with McCartney, Harrison, and Starr, and in-studio footage introduced by George Martin.
